CANADA'S SENIOR WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM TO HOST JAPAN IN RIM-TO-RIM EXHIBITION MATCH
VICTORIA, British Columbia (April 18, 2023) – Canada Basketball and We The West are excited to announce that Canada’s Senior Women's National Team will host an exhibition game against Japan on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, B.C. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. PT, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. PT.
“We are excited to bring our Senior Women’s National Team to Victoria in June and host Japan, the defending silver medalists at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said Denise Dignard, General Manager / Executive Vice-President, Women's High Performance. “Not only will this game give players and staff valuable international experience, but the unique opportunity to play on home soil in front of passionate Canadian fans, as well as family and friends.”

Rim-to-Rim will celebrate the Pacific Rim rivalry between Canada and Japan and will represent the first time in over 20 years that Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team has played a game in Victoria.
The Rim-to-Rim matchup will also mark the start of Team Canada's march to the Paris Olympics 2024. Ahead of the game, Canada will host their first training camp in Edmonton, Alberta, home of the Senior Women’s National Team since 2013, from May 22-29.
Coming off a fourth place finish at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022, the team's best finish at the World Cup since a third-place finish in 1986, the Senior Women’s National Team is now looking ahead to this summer’s FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2023, which will run July 1-9 in León, Guanajuato in Mexico.
Ten teams will participate in this year’s FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 with eight teams advancing to the FIBA Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament for the Americas, November 5-13, while the top two teams will move directly to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2023 in February.
Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team is ranked fifth in the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, after the rankings were updated following the conclusion of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022.
