Friends of Victoria Basketball is planning the We the West Basketball Festival which is a one-of-a-kind, three-week celebration of the community and culture of basketball in Canada taking place in Victoria BC this June.  Anchoring the Festival is the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament from June 29 to July 4, 2021. Six teams will take part in this tournament, Canada, China, Greece, Turkey, Uruguay and the Czech Republic. The winner of this tournament will advance to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games starting July 23, 2021.

The Sport/Venue and Client Services Assistant will be part of the Operations team responsible for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and will work with the team to support the planning and delivery of the tournament.

Scope of Work:

• Support venue management and client services in the following areas;

• Coordination of the pre-tournament test event (games) to be held prior to the event at the FOQT competition venue 

• Coordination / scheduling of meetings

• Assist with event accreditation of various client groups attending the event, preparation and delivery of badges

• Assist in the development of event manuals and handbooks 

• Assist in the logistics with respect to table officials; schedules, booking of hotel rooms, flights, pre-event information

• Schedule and coordinate pre-tournament meetings and walkthroughs for officials and FIBA staff 

• Book accommodations for FIBA staff for pre-tournament visits including hotel rooms and transportation once they are in Victoria

• Coordinate transportation requirements for FIBA staff during the airport to the hotel

• Work with team attaches to fulfill requests of people inside the hotel bubble 

• Will be required to work flexible hours and weekends


• Extremely organized, with strong attention to detail and deadlines

• Ability to multi-task and problem solve 

• Database management

• Technically proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

• Excellent people and communication skills 

• Maintains excellent writing and language skills 

• Ability to work independently while following overall management direction

• Ability to speak French or one of the languages of teams participating in the tournament (Greece, China, Turkey, Czech Republic, Uruguay) is an asset but not required 

• Must have a valid, full drivers license 

• Ability to lift 25 lbs 

• Agree to COVID testing as required (provided by Friends of Victoria Basketball) and abide by COVID protocols established for the event.

Duration: 10 weeks (May 10 – July 16)
